Legend holds that 30 years ago, a suburban town was terrorized by the spirit of a woman whose face had been grotesquely disfigured. Roaming the streets wearing a long raincoat, mask, and carrying large scissors, the spirit would approach her young victims and, as she removes her mask, ask "Am I pretty?" The victim would die violently whatever their reaction.Thirty years later, children are disappearing again, one by one. The slit-mouthed woman seems to have returned, but why? Why now after a long absence?
Schoolteacher Kyoko Yamashita sets out to investigate, to ease her guilt for failing to protect one of her students from the mysterious killer. She eventually discovers the origins of the slit-mouthed woman with Noboru Matsuzaki at her side.
